FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Does my insurance cover my treatment?

Many insurance plans cover the services provided at The Disc Clinic, however coverage can vary from plan to plan.  For the most accurate information regarding coverage for a specific service, contact your insurance company.

Can you direct bill my insurance plan?

The Disc Clinic is presently able to direct bill Medavie Blue Cross and Great West Life plans which allow for direct billing/payment assignment.  We are also able to direct bill for some Sunlife plans, not all.  Please note that plans may not allow direct billing for all of the services covered by that plan.

What should I wear/bring to my appointment?

For all services we encourage you to wear comfortable clothing that will allow the therapist to access your area of complaint; e.g. loose fitting or workout clothes.  We do have shorts and gowns at the clinic for patient use as needed.  If you are attending for an assessment for custom orthotics, please wear shorts or pants that will easily roll above the knees.  As well, please bring your most commonly worn footwear.

What kind of massage therapy do you offer?

At The Disc Clinic our Registered Massage Therapists are trained in several different massage therapy techniques, including but not limited to Myofascial Release and Deep Tissue Massage.  Depending on your particular complaint or concern, a combination of multiple techniques may be used during a single treatment.

Where did you get your training?

Please refer to the  Our Staff section of our website to learn more about our staff's credentials.

How long have staff been practicing?

For information regarding length of practice for specific practitioners, please refer to the  Our Staff section of the website.

Do I need a prescription/referral from my doctor?

For many of our services the treating professional may not require a referral/prescription to provide treatment.  However, your insurance plan may require a referral to cover or reimburse for certain services.

Check with your insurance provider for specific details. For custom orthotics, a referral is required.

How long before I can get an appointment?

Although we do our best to schedule you for an appointment as soon as possible, depending on your schedule and the practitioner's availability there may be a short wait for an appointment time.

Please keep in mind that for services such as Chiropractic and Physiotherapy the initial assessment is a longer appointment.

How long are the appointments?

For Chiropractic and Physiotherapy your initial assessment is generally booked in a 60 minute block.  Future treatments/appointments may last on average 20 - 30 minutes.  However, depending on your condition and treatment plan, your appointments may be longer.

For orthotic assessments, your appointment will be approximately 1 hour.  Fitting/pick up appointments are 15 - 30 minutes.

Massage Therapy sessions are available for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes.  However, we usually recommend a 1 Hour (60 minute) appointment for your initial visit.

What if I can't make my appointment?

The Disc Clinic requests 24 hours notice for cancellations.  Missed appointments and late cancellations may be subject to a no-show/late cancellation charge.  We understand that illnesses and unexpected situations arise, where you may not be able to provide the requested notice, but as soon as you know you cannot make your appointment, please contact us as others may be waiting for an appointment time.

Will the Chiropractor "crack" my neck/back?

Dr. Baker is trained in a specialized Chiropractic technique; Cox Flexion-Decompression. This is a more conservative approach than traditional manipulations.

For More information about the Cox Technique, please refer to the  Chiropractic section of our website.  If you have a specific question or concern regarding Chiropractic treatment, please contact us by phone or use the inquiry form on the Contact Us page.

Do you treat children?

All of the professionals at The Disc Clinic have experience treating children.  To find out if a specific service is appropriate for your child's age and condition, please contact one of our staff.
